It's pretty heavy, but also great thing to do - sometimes i grab a stick from the drummer and use it like a bottleneck slide. You get a very percussive but slidey sound. It's good especially if you're playing with percussion. You can make grooves that use microtone slides if you know what i mean - sounds really unusual but is very musical and breaks out of the mould a bit. Also it's nice to alternate playing the strings quite high on the neck with the stick, and then going down to the bottom again - gives a real 'boing' and sounds great. Not exactly marcus miller, but it's damn groovy if you get into it.

Not really about the bass, but could be with anything...

A long time ago, I saw a band here called Crust at Emos in Austin. The lead singer, Jonathan, was going on and on during his screaming vocal solo or something, pulled his pants down and lit his pubes on fire.

That still makes me go "what the @#(*! was that?!"

Does that count? =)

One time, while jamming with some friends, I hit my delay pedal, hit my flanger, and then hit my Big Muff, set my phone to vibrate and held it over the pickup... there was this really, bizzare echoing dirge that we jammed over for a wee bit...

Looking back, it was pretty silly, but at the same time, it sounded cool.

when had a fretless, I would pluck a harmonic and slide it.
My roommate's cat would always meow at that.

maybe it only works for cats tho

if I bend my high A on the G string with a certain distortion, it makes one of my dogs howl.

I've been experimenting with using a wah while sliding on a fretless.

try pointing a remote control (tv, stereo, dvd, etc.) at your pickups from within an inch or two... Different buttons, different remotes, different sounds... channel your inner radiohead

I like to keep a few sound clips qued up on my phone, and put the external speakers on the pickups of my bass when the time comes. It's usually goofy stuff like the Transformers "transforming sound", or sirens, or noises my girlfriend makes.... stuff like that. Sometimes it's cool and adds to the show, sometimes it just looks like I spend too much time alone.

not exactly bass, but
unplug your imput and hold the jack in your hand
stick the imput in your shirt
mess around with a wah pedal
can simulate a heart beat or just plain weird noises!
