Study book for advanced players?

I've done lots of playing over the years and have met most of the goals I've set for myself, but I am a believer in keeping up the fundamentals like scales, arps, patterns and rhythm. Can someone recommend a book that is beyond the beginner phase? Thanks.

Carl Flesch's Scale System. It's "arranged for double bass" but works wonders for electric players as well.

You might want to be more specific of your goals.
eg. learn, new patterns and rhythms becomes
learn afro-cuban bass patterns and rhythms for bass. becomes
learn Oscar Stagnaro's Latin Bass Book

Your local public or university music library may have shelves of good books to explore, for the price of a membership card.

Good point about your public library. I live in a small town of 5,600 people. Our library is also very small, however, they borrow books from other libraries when you request something they do not have.

It's all free there is no special charge. My Wife and I have used this service many times.

Perhaps it's time to check out 2 unrecognized bass skills- MELODY & Keyboard. When I reached that point melody was the unexplored territory and it has lead to me understanding more about music and made me a much better player than I would be just playing exercises and bass lines.

Chord Studies for Electric Bass by Rich Appleman should keep you busy for a long time.
