suggested readings?

Hi all,

I'm new to the bass and I was wondering what books would be a good place to start. I did play an instrument in highschool so I'm not completely new to music.

Right now, I just have a mel bay complete bass book. It has some good exercises and explains some technique but it doesn't really explain music theory that well.

I'm also interested in learning jazz bass specifically.

Any suggestions would be a big help to me.

Thanks.

Hey Bardo,

I'd definitely suggest checking out 'Bass Guitar for Dummies' by Patrick Pfeiffer. I found it really useful when I was starting out especially when it came to learning the basic theory i.e. Major Scales, Triads, 7th Chords etc. It also has a few sections on various styles amongst other things such as building a groove and finger exercises.

Also anything with Ed Friedlands name on is generally great value for money, be sure to take a look at his books and see if there are any you think might be useful. Good luck with the search.

Andy
