Suggestions for good starting songs to transcribe?

Any genre is fine.

Most of the music I normally listen to is far to hard.

I know it may be best to just dive into it but I kinda want something that I could practice on.

Any suggestions?

I've only been playing for roughly 4 or so months

If you have only been playing bass for 4 months -- define transcribe. Are you wanting to transcribe the melody line or the bass line? If you want to end up with a bass line.

1) See if Google can find you some lead sheet or fake chord sheet music for the song.

2) Once you have the chords used in the song - then decide how you want to play them, i.e.......
Root nothing changing with the chord changes.
Root - 5 changing with the chord changes.
Chord tones changing with the chord changes.
C chord R-3-5-3
C7 chord R-3-5-b7
Cm chord R-b3-5-b3
Cm7 chord R-3-5-7

Write out your bass line riff you decide will work best with each chord.

That's hard enough, hunt for a chord progression and then build your bass line from there.

This will help with the what the chord tones are.
http://www.looknohands.com/chordhous.../index_rb.html For example:
Ask it to give you the chord tone spelling for Cdim7 and you get the following.
intervals: 1,b3,b5,bb7
notes: C,Eb,Gb,Bbb
Then decide if you need all of that for the song or if a C nothing will work. Up to you.

Good luck.

Sorry I should have explained it better.

Since I always read its best to avoid using tabs and such, I wanted to learn some songs by ear.

Not really make my own just yet.

I'll check out the fake sheet stuff, Thanks.

I'd be interested in a source of easy songs or randomly generated melody&bass lines with chordal structure. For ear training.

I'd say stuff like The Beatles & The Police would be a good place to start. Some lines might be a bit tricky to play for an absolute beginner, but most of the songs will have easily identifiable bass parts that you can pick out.
