I live in Austin and I just booked a lesson with new Austin area resident Ed Friedland. I am totally excited about learning from such a respected authority.

For anyone intersested, he is teaching at the Bass Emporium on Thursdays, from noon until 6.

I've called him, too. Work is going to pay for it, but I have to wait for the beauracracy....

That's too cool! I think it would be awesome to take lessons from someone who is such a well-known and respected educator.

Whoa - that's cool ... it's a pity I'm so far away.

...maybe he does lessons via correspondence?

The guy used to live in Tucson - down by where I live.

About the time I figure this out he moves to Austin!

Bummer.

Dude - I'm from Sierra Vista! Haven't been there in a while, but I grew up there! Buena High and everything! What are you doing there?

Thumbs up

Good ol' Sierra Vista!

I'm an Arizona native - Phoenix for the most part. I just kind of ended up down here about eight years ago because some of the family migrated this way.

Not much going on down here so I picked up the bass again and I'm trying to learn some theory this time around. I'm gonna "wood shed" for a while and then see if I can get out of here and get back in a band.

I used to live in Austin back in the late '80s. I wish I would have never left, but the job scene there was rough back then.

I actually started messing around with your "sure-fire scale practice method" the other day. Good stuff!

Anyway, good to meet ya!

Awesome, Ed Friedland's a great player! I ahve a Slap Bass dvd of his, very cool stuff! You can see a lot of the Marcus Miller influence in his playing, as he says, he went to high school with him and grew up listening to him-very cool!

Cool stuff. His book walking basslines book was great when I first started getting into jazz. Apparantley he does some cool stuff with a loop pedal too. This summer Im going to take lessons with Dave Welsch who is Victors tour manager and has 7 years of lessons with Vic under his belt. I cant wait
