Teaching Skype Lessons?

Sign in to disble this ad
Does anyone do this?

I know giving/taking lessons via Skype are getting popular. I've never used Skype, so I know little to nothing about this. The whole thing seems kind of sketchy to me, but I'm certainly not conspiring to rip people off.

Anyone that either gives Skype lessons, or knows a thing or two about it, please fill me in!

Thanks!

I teach on skype pretty regularly. There are some pretty significant drawbacks in doing it that way, like not being able to play in real time with your student or being able to check their hand position easily, but other than that, it's worked out pretty well otherwise, just because I have a much larger student pool to draw upon.

I tried it with a couple students. It's a real pain. I would only really want to do it with a student that is already a pretty good player and is looking for really focused instruction on advanced concepts.

I think it works well with more advanced students, and also when you get to see the teacher "live" every so often. I've taken lessons from Todd Johnson this way, but every month or we get to do a lesson in person.
