A tempo guisto?

Sign in to disble this ad
im playing a telemann trombone solo on my bass and the only tempo marking is "a tempo guisto". from what i understand that means with firm/strict tempo. so what would be a good tempo to take this thing at?

for any tromboners out there it is fantasie 1 in a minor from the 12 fantasies for unaccompanied trombone book.

any suggestions would be great.

as you say "tempo giusto" don't refer to BPM

usually you can see for example
"allegro - tempo giusto"

so the first indication is related to BPM
(in this example "allegro" is something around 130-140 and probably could be nice for your fantasie if you are skilled, if I think to famous fantasies: Chopin, Liszt...)

but the second indication "tempo giusto" means that you have to listen carefully to metronome and never fluctuate; never behind or above the bit.

is the opposite meaning of "tempo rubato" that means you have the freedom to interpretate timeing.

I hope it could be usefull,
m.

You learn something new every day.

I think I'm going to start shouting

- Tempo Guisto!! Tempo Guisto!!

when a band member's timing needs improvement..

I usually do that joke when someone in my band does one of that very common intros when the timeing is very inconsistent, (but maybe expressive...):
"Ah, ok, that was a RUBATO time?"
at list to understand if it was intentional
