Are there any extremely basic tuts?

Sign in to disble this ad
Ok, I tried the tuts in the sticky and they still seem too complicated for me, which makes me feel a bit stupid.. could anyone please give me an extremely basic riff I could practice on please? or point me in the direction of a REALLY easy tut? I also tried that tut that guy sent to his friend via email >_>

Please help if you can, I only want to play for fun etc I don't aim to play to join a band or anything..

If you mean "tutorial" then the next logical question for you is "what do you want to learn", rather than "Where's an easy tutorial?". It's like showing up for the first day of college and asking where the "basic" class is...

I'd recommend getting the book "Bass Guitar for Dummies". Ignore the "D" word as it's a great book. It explains everything in a simple way. It comes with a cd. If you dont want to buy it, then inquire at your local library.

Try that. It's the reading room here on TB. You could also look for a thread started by the TB'er "binnie" a while ago in General Instruction. That contains a lot of very basic information.

Edit: this one: chords

Enter Sandman - Metallica. Easy riff.

Well, it's not extremely easy... But you can play:

GGGGGGGGAAAAAAAAAbAbAbAbAbAbAbAb and repeat.

Yeah... tuts, that guy, an email...

I posted this in a thread already: http://www.bassblues.com/

It's my site - I've done it from the ground up for absolute beginners onwards. Try going through that and tell me if it's a help for you.

I am putting up more stuff this weekend - there is enough info to get you started.

I'd recommend finding a teacher if you can.

Good luck,
Nick.

is a great place to read up on the roll of bass and get an idea of what you need to learn to be a good bassist. It also has a couple of examples and some chord and scale lessons.

I would start there.

You can also learn some simple lines by looking up the tabs or using your ears... Smoke on the Water, Insomniac, Blitzkrieg bop, Another One Bites the Dust...

Playing in a band is great experience. IMO, It's about the only time when you really know that you know how to play.

I really reccomend nicks site. I could never really grasp sites like studybass, but for some reason I instantly grasped nick's blues site perfectly. A great site.
