So I'm a Mechanical Engineering Student at RIT and apparently I have to declare a liberal arts concentration. They don't really have anything that is going to add to my already impeccable resume for concentrations so I thought.. I love bass, why not take a music minor? I was wondering if any of you experienced musicians could give me advice on which of these three classes I should take to get the most out of my experience there? http://www.rit.edu/~690www/concentrations/conc_MUS.html
Also, I was wondering if I take the Applied Music course (strings, obviously) if I bring my bass in with me? I don't want to look like a dork carrying in my electric bass when they might either already have an upright or require you to have your own Thanks for any help, I'm sure I'll ask more as the thread progresses.
Or is that way over my head? I've only been playing about 4 months.

Plus, I've only been playing for 5 months, so we're almost in the same boat |

Stop by his office, and ask for 10 minutes of his time. He'll probably appreciate someone being pro-active. He'll be able to tell you which streams electric bass is appropriate for, and discuss the standard required on entry.

Ian | Thanks for the reply, but that was the first stop on my track The problem is I don't live where I go to school (bout 2 hour drive) If I had a car I'd go out after work (I work full time 40+ hours 7am-4pm) and I'd go see him once I get to school, but, then that would be well past registration and I'd have to postpone declaring my concentration until 6 months from now and then I might not have enough quarters(semesters) left to fufill the req So I'll shoot him an email, but I thought I'd ask my fellow bassists first.

I don't want to be mean, but after only 4 months of playing, I'm not sure it's the best idea to minor in electric bass. But who knows, maybe these guys don't care. Sorry if thats harsh, just my opinion.

Dan | I agree. I'm going philosophy instead.
