thinking of buying a book...

Hi,

I'm currently in the process of composing my letter to Santa and i'm trying to decide what bass book i'd like.

I've been reading through the book related posts on the forums, and i've been looking on amazon, i've been finding it hard to decide on what book would best suit what i'm after.

I've been gigging as long as i've been playing bass (3 years) but i'm aware of the holes in my technique.

I can't sight read, my music theory is a bit shaky and my slap technique is a bit sloppy (although i'm fine tuning it!).

Can anyone recommend a good book (preferably with a DVD or CD...for the visuals and having something to play along too) that might cover most of these topics?

I was thinking of Hal Leonard's Bass Method book and maybe Ed Friedland's Slap DVD.

I also like Alex Sklarevski's Bass Playing Techniques (Hal Leonard ISBN_0793582024) for someone that hasn't been playing too, too long.

Funkifying The Clave For Bass & Drums by Robbie Ammeen & Lincoln Goines will/should awaken some new rhythmic ideas for your playing.

This book is the one that I would have written for my students.
Ed Friedland did a wonderful job and the cd w/ backing tracks is excellent! Highly recommend this book.

After you finish the book:

Standing in the Shadows
Tony Opperheim's Slap it.

That's what I would have you do.
