Tony Grey Bass Masterclasses?

Sign in to disble this ad
I've got the chance to go on one of these two day compact masterclasses which seem to cover a whole load of material and teach a new approach to practising your instrument. It's quite a lot of cash (I've just been made redundant) but it looks real good.

Anyone had any experience of these two day masterclasses? Is it worth the investment? Any thoughts appreciated!

Thanks!

Back in my banjo days I went to a week-end class. Don't remember the cost, but, less than a hundred dollars. Not worth the time or money. Thirty of us sat around listening to two guys play. Not a lot teaching involved.

Went to a week long class that cost, counting air fare, over a thousand dollars. Lot of hands on teaching at this class. Fifteen of us with two instructors. As it was a week long class we all were spending the night and there was a jamm session each night. Nice week's vacation, however I could have paid for a bunch of private lessons with that money. I did learn how to play claw-hammer banjo, and how to hold my own in a jamming session, but, at a very steep price.

Weigh the cost against how much you need to get away for awhile, but, don't count on learning a whole lot in a two day class. Good fun mixing with other musicians, but, your money could be better spent on private lessons.

Of course IMHO.
