Transition in reading

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm hoping someone here can help me out with this. I can already read bass clef as I also play the trombone. I also know the fretboard. So I want to combine the two, but my issue is knowing where the point of reference is. i.e. Is the open low E string the equivelant of the low E that is one ledger line below the staff, or would it be even lower, or middle of the staff? I hope this question makes sense. Thanks for any replies.

You are correct, the low E is one ledger line below the staff.

It should be noted that the Bass Guitar - like the Double Bass - sounds one octave lower than written. But, as J. Montgomery says, the low E is one ledger line below the staff.
