Question Trouble with Strap & Height...

Sign in to disble this ad
i have a hybrid style of playing, mix of finger style and slapping. i am very conscious of keeping my wrists straight and use the floating thump.

lately i've been trying to experiment with different strap heights and i cant seem to find one that is comfortable. i recently sat down, played my bass and it was very comfortable and then sat the height according to that, but man.... it made my left shoulder area very sore and tired while playing, weird!

anyone else have this problem?

solutions?

even today my shoulder muscles are very sore

Depends on whats going on when you stand up.

The way my bass sits horizontally on my lap is a bit different than how is sits when I'm standing... it balances further toward my plucking hand and cramps my position a bit. I find setting the bass a couple of inches lower than sitting position worked for me.

Be thankful you're not playing a Thunderbird. I can only stand playing for like 10-15 minutes max because of the force pushing down on my left shoulder.
