Trying to learn Rush and getting messed up on time sigs...

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm trying to learn a couple of Rush songs, Prime Mover and Time Stand Still, and I'm really struggling.

What Geddy is playing in terms of the notes and chords is fine, but what's catching me out is the time sigs.

I've tried everything, from trying to play along to the record to counting it out to using a click-track. Nothing seems to help.

Usually I'm good with time sigs, but this is making me all angry. Any help?

If I'm having trouble I'll sing the lyrics under my breath along with the lead vocalist -- seems to help..... Most of the time I do rely upon the vocalist to set the tempo. Course most of our music is fake chord - no time signature.

Sounds like they're both in 4/4...an occasional 3/4 or 7/8 bar, mostly straight though.

i just counted Prime Mover. the entire song is in 4/4 with no signature changes. there are alot of accents on the AND FOUR AND ONE, that may give it the feeling of a changed time sig, but, it's still 4/4.

Learn the bass drum parts... It'll help keep you in rythm.
