Question Tune to what Key?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello everyone,

I am a beginning bass player and bought a starters kit from a local music shop a while back and it came with a electronic tuner which has been confusing me ever since I got it.

The tuner is a Joyo JMT-9006C.

In the left bottom corner it lets me choose a Key to tune the bass in. F, Eb, C, Bb. When I tune say the E string in Key Eb then in key F it will say its tuned to D which makes me wonder, to what Key should I tune my bass guitar?

I hope I understand it well enough.

I'm thinking this feature is for transposing instruments, like how a trumpets written C is really Bb?

Bass music is transposed but only down an entire octave so a played C is a written C. Might as well set it to C and forget about it...and make sure that number is always set to 440

Set it to C. Those other keys are for other instruments.
