Tuning hertz

Sign in to disble this ad
My little pocket tuner can tune from 430 to 449 hertz.

I've never really thought about it and always tuned on the default 440hz.

Why would I tune, or what instrument would I tune, to anything other that 440hz?

early classical music had an A reference lower than 440 Hz so a lot of renaissance and baroque era music would be tuned to the lower A if you're going for "period correct".

If you need to tune to an instrument not in A440 you measure it with your tuner and go for same pitch. Eg piano that can't be retuned, wind instruments sometimes, etc
