Turnaround lick of DOOM!

Sign in to disble this ad
So my band is looking to do Weather Reports Havona for a gig we`re playing soon. So we`re listening to it at rehearsals tonight, and at one point (44 bars in or so) Jaco plays the dreaded turn-around lick. I could`nt figure it out! It sounds something like a C Lydian but that does`nt work either. So I came here, for your help. Does anybody know how this lick is done? I really need to get this down

It's a few YEARS back. I recently threw away all of my back issues of BP going back to 1991 when I used to sit in high school and read it. It only came out 4 times a year back then. I thought about saving that issue but when I realize I haven't opened that box full of magazines in over 6 years I just threw them all out.

edit: I just watched that video. You would be totally badass if you played Jaco's best recorded solo at your gig too.

jimmy haslip

it's def. a killer line, to play smoothly, just ask Jimmy Haslip. You can see him on a tribute cd/dvd trying to nail it in the studio. Even Jimmy was punching it together.(of course that was for the record) he laughs at the thought of Jaco looking 'down' and sayin'....ok boys lets see ya play THIS!
Good luck.

I think of it as a B Phrygian, if anything.

Tough lick(!)
