I assume what you're trying to say is play in sync with the rhythm of the song. This is true, but having control of EXACTLY how you're interacting with the rhythm is part of the magic. You can be ahead of the beat, on top of the beat, or behind the beat. Sometimes leaning one way or another helps solidify the overall groove of the song. For example, on a slow blues, I might drag just a shade behind the beat to give the song's groove a bit of a lazy, relaxed feel. It's all about what's right for the music.

There is alot more, but i think this is the two most importend things. |
Loud and clear is good...when loud and clear is appropriate for the music you're playing. If the song calls for subtle and understated, playing loud and clear ruins the groove. Having confidence in your playing abilities is good, but if you're playing in a way that doesn't best serve the music, all the confidence in the world won't help.
