Scott, thanks! I had stumbled into pentatonic scales when introduced on studybass.com. Your videos take that to the next level.

One day I was learning "Sunshine of your love" and realized it is exactly the minor blues scale. This music theory stuff doesn't always seem super relevant at the time you learn it but suddenly you'll flash on a situation that you can handle because you have that background.
