Vic Wooten's Bass/Nature Camp!!!

Sign in to disble this ad
So I just got my acceptance letter to Vic's Bass/Nature Camp for late October and I couldn't be more excited!!! Unfortunately, the acceptance letter is for the weeklong camp that already happened, so I'll have to wait to get the info before I can try to book flights.

So has anyone gone to this in the past? What was it like? How long were the days? Did you fly there? If so, how was your experience with your bass on the plane? When did things wrap up at the end of the weekend? I guess, share any and all info! If you want, PM me...I have a few questions and would love some advice.

WOO HOO! BASS CAMP!!!

Congrats guys, you're in for a real treat. I went to Vics camp twice and it was amazing both times. It is simply unlike any other musical experience I've ever had, and that's a good thing! I don't know how different the weekend version will be compared to the week long version but it should be very cool! Vic talked about wanting to do a short version back when I went to my first camp (fall 03) so it's been on his mind for some time.

If you have a any specific questions feel free to PM me, but I don't want to spoil things too much

I flew with one bass in a gig back the first time and it was easy. The second time I brought 2 basses and was planning on carrying them on in my double gig back. I got stopped at the check in counter and had to check them at the last minute (luckily I own a flight case). When I got to Nashville they had lost my basses Vic's wife Holly was great and tracked them down for me and I had them by the first "real" day of camp. I don't know how things have changed in the last year with airline security but I don't think there is any really safe way to take a bass on a plane. If you carry on you risk getting stopped, if you check there are all sorts of other risks... on the other hand my basses were fine, just a day late.

I'm in the Seattle area and hopefully will be helping out around the camp so maybe I'll meet you guys there!

I got the one for the right bass camp. I'm taking off school Thursday, Friday, Monday and possibly Tuesday. I'm also planning on going to U. Washington, so I can fit in college visits then. Also got some friends in NW Seattle that I'd like to meet.

It's gonna be a great time!!!! I'd reccomend staying an extra day to visit Seattle if you've never been there. You can spend an entire afternoon in Pike Place Market alone!

The only thing I'm really thinking about is how many people actually applied... I hope a lot more than the alloted 45 spaces!

Now I just need to get ready for that plane trip from Philly to Seattle/Tacoma...

Zensunday - Hey Bennet! - is absolutely correct, BNC is is an amazing & transformational life experience. I was there initially in May 2003, last August for Reunion Camp and I was invited back this past June as a volunteer!
Thought I had it all figured out after 2 camps, but gained so much more perspective & awareness as a helper.
You can get a good feel about the "goings-on" at camp just by visiting the gallery pages on the BNC site. But don't ask too many questions of us alumni - it'll only spoil the fun
I believe that the current tuition is $600 - which is less than it was back in 2003. Holly Wooten told me that they cut the costs in order to make it affordable for the younger players!
it is fantastic Camp for players of all ages & abilities. Also, I would absolutely recommend Gerald Veasley's Bass BootCamp.
peace y'all
Glenn

tution for the weekend is a bit more than $300. i still can't access the correct acceptance letter. when i open the letter, it says that it is "...to be held on Monday, May 29th to Saturday, June. 3rd, 2006 at Montgomery Bell State Park in Dickson, Tennessee (near Nashville)."

that's the week long camp. does anyone have contact info for the camp? i tried emailing the addresses in the acceptance letter and on the website, but haven't heard back yet. i want to book my plane tix today. any and all help is appreciated. if anyone has correct contact info for the camp or the correct acceptance letter, please pm me or email me the info. thanks! i'm really looking forward to camp!

also someone asked about the application process - pretty much general info about you and a paragraph about why you want to go. that's it. no audition tapes, no deep musical questions...should be a blast.

ok, now i'm slightly concerned. the basscamp site is down (as is vic's site) and the acceptance letter i got was for the previous full week basscamp, not the upcoming weekend basscamp. i emailed the addresses on the letter and the site and replied to the email to find out the date/time that i need to book my flights for and have gotten no replies. you'd think that the day or two after sending out acceptances someone would check email and reply...there are probably lots of questions from accepted applicants. did anyone get the correct acceptance letter? if so, can you please PM me or email it to me so i can book flights? anyone heard anything about what's going on?

any and all info is MORE than appreciated!

OK! got my acceptance letter in the mail today! the correct letter with the correct info!!! i'm in!!!

looks like flights are gonna be tough. it is a toss up between hanging out at the seattle airport for 8 hours or skipping out of camp a few hours before it ends. hmmm? can't wait!!! any other folks flying out of NY airports?

I'm hoping to go this next summer. I don't think regestration starts until January or something like that. Someone correct me if I'm wrong here, cause I don't want to screw it up. But I live about an hour away from the camp, so that wont be nothing for me. I'm siked to check it out, if I get accepted.

the site says priority is given to locals. after calling the airlines last night, i understand why...its hard to find good flights that meet the time restrictions - i'll likely be spending 8 hours in the seattle airport after the final day of camp waiting to catch a plane back to ny.

but victorwooten.com is finally back up, so keep an eye out for registration.

I have been twice. There is only so much that can be said without spoiling the surprises. Make sure you go with an open mind and leave your ego at home if you want to get the most out of it.

PM if you have questions. I will answer what I can and what won't ruin it for you.
