On Victa's new dvd, which student did you identify with?

If any of the students from the Bass Collective are out there reading this, that were in fact 1 of the 9 on Victor & Anthony's dvd, this post is just our friendly observations and curious insights.

Please take no offense, or let your head get to gassed up.

Personally, i think i identified with Mike the most. Mike was the guy in the center, with the red Warwick bass & that had on the reading glasses. Mike evidently has a love for playing the bass guitar, as he's a student at the Bass Collective, however, to me, he had no idea of groove, no concept of subdividing time and until that is cleaned up enough for him (subdiving) his progress will be disjointed.

You can learn how to use harmonics and things like that, but that seems meaningless if you haven't adressed the primary role of a bassist. Grooving.

Again, take no offense, just an observation.

I have a question also. The guy that sat in the back, with the $7,000 Anthony Jackson, custom Fodera bass... why do guys that play that well, enroll themselves in a school full of amatuers?

Is it simply to recieve some sort've diploma or teaching degree for later usage?

You would think that real world experience would be the perferrable circulum for him, as opposed to having to dumb his playing down & forgo the tedious rigours of going back & relearning about chords & scales and such.

If i have a command of the language of music, as he obviously has, why 'waste' that time/money sitting in a classrom for 80 weeks?

Private instruction i can see, but a clasroom?
