Walked my first jazz line, I think :)

Last practice session our band was goofing off a little (which is actually quite rare) and we were talking about jazz and how we felt about it.

As we were talking, I played a short "jazzy" line and the next thing I know the drummer is playing a pretty jazzy beat so I just started walking up and down the fretboard a little making it sound jazzy. No structure to it whatsoever just walking up between notes and their thirds or fifths, mainly playing quarter notes with a few 8ths and 16th, sometimes shuffling the notes, sometimes not, always moving around probably between keys and hitting all the avoid notes etc

But being just drum 'n' bass, it sounded OK for what it was...and unlike just listening to jazz I actually enjoyed playing what I was messing with it, and wanted to have a bit more of play

So any tips on some "beginners" jazz?

yes - buy Rufus Reid's "The evolving bassist". It will really take you as long as you want to go in that direction.
It's written with doublebass in mind, but will work for e-bass too...

Bon Voyage - its a good trip
