Want to know about blisters on fingers from playing slap bass?

I got on DR stainless steel strings. I had a got a blister on my index finger. I popped it and then that part of my skin got hard and scab-like. I peeled it and now it's just a rough area of skin. Am I good? Is that what happens when you play that style? Will my index finger be use to it now? I ask because it was looking nasty but it is alright now. I am not worry about looking good while playing bass. I am more concerned with grooving and sounding good and I just want to make sure the finger thing was normal.
