What to buy

I am getting back into playing bass after 17 years off. The bassist at my church hurt his back and I played a long time ago so I told the band director that I would help out. I did that with the assumption that the normal guy would be back soon. That was about 7 months ago...lol

So I have been playing a Fender P 4 string but I think that if I am going to keep playing I want the B. I am currently looking at the ESP LTD D5 for $430 and just wondered what others thought about this bass. Or if there were any other "beginner" basses that I should check out. All advice is appreciated.
Thanks
Aaron

Any of the Ibanez SR or BTB basses in your price range are fine instruments.

You most likely can't get a Fender P (five string) for under $1000...I'd stick with Fender if you are going to keep playing. ...................................too bad
