Short answer - 400 years of music history!

Go find a copy of the Hiromi/Corea Duets disk recorded live at the Blue Note in Tokyo.

To my ears this is 4 hands, 1 mind. Hiromi Uehara is a remarkable & gifted musician, in a class with Chick Corea, Art Tatum & Glenn Gould. I hope your friend is up for a long analysis & has big ears. My personal plan is to listen, long & often, hoping the inspiration has some effect. 8-)

FWIW, I plan to be in the room for the last set in Boston next month.

Wow.

I hadn't heard of her until now. As that video started I thought, "Okay, lots of technique, but the music isn't going anywhere." And then it went ... around the world. I'm dazzled by how quickly she moves from one phrase to a completely different one and then another and then another, but with precision and imagination and structure and ... intense feeling! I've seen Keith Jarrett live, and he's dazzling, too, in his inventiveness, but it feels like he's in slow motion compared to her -- not that Jarrett doesn't have flying fingers, but she has a flying MIND, shifting instantly and fluidly from idea to idea. Un-be-lieve-a-ble. Even the cutesy play-the-strings-themselves bit doesn't seem forced. She RULES that piano!

Thanks for sharing that video!
