What are the first Gospel (and other genres) songs that must be learned?

I recently read the GospelChops interview with Alan "Snoops" Evan (GospelChops.com – Drumming… Perfected. » Exclusive Interview with Alan “Snoop” Evans » GospelChops.com - Drumming... Perfected.) and he mentioned that his practice involved listening and memorizing "popular Gospel songs." I want to start doing that, first for Gospel, and then for every other genre. But I don't know where to start.

So what are the first foundational songs that every Gospel student must learn?

What about other genres: RnB, Pop, Rock, Jazz, Blues, Funk, etc.

"Popular" is different for every church as all have their own book filled with popular and not mandated from Bishops above as must play songs. You can go back to Andre crouch and the Hawkins of the 70s, if you consider them the beginning of the modern Urban Gospel era, or even further. Maybe pick up a WoW CD or their competitors best of collections a few years apart.

I would do the same with other genres. Pick up the Rhino Funk series etc. As you learn the players you can branch out and seek out on your own.
