What to learn next?

I recently started bass after playing guitar for 8 years. I started out just learning songs. Now I'd like to get into scales which I used to do on my guitar but now I only remeber the fingerings for minor pent's and regular major scales. What is the best way to go about learning scales in a more theory oriented way rather than just fingerings because i stopped taking lessons (for guitar) a few years ago and my teacher was showing me scales and telling me which to play on what exercises and I wish I could figure it out myself. Any help would be awesome. Are there any good sites for this?
