What Note Is This?

Sign in to disble this ad
I can’t seem to replicate a certain note on a song that we’re playing, and I'm hoping someone can help me figure this one out.

This bass line/riff was originally written when the old bass player was in the band, which from what I was told, he possibly played a 5 string. I’m thinking he may have been using some possible alternate tuning on this song.

I'm playing this on a 4-string with drop D (the uses low D in some parts)

This is how I'm playing it. It all seems right-on, except for that last D...

A: --------5--555---4---3-------------------5-----
E(D): ----------------------------3333------------

We practiced the tune last night, and I just could not hit that note no matter what I tried. The guitar player said he was using the same chord as he was playing in the recording, but for some reason, whatever I tried, just clashed.

What do you guys think that last note is? (The note in question is at 00:04)

Thanks for the help.

(Riff attached)

I don't hear anything wrong with it as is. Honestly.

That's what I'm thinking too. Must be the guitar chord from last night's practice clashing, because when I play against this recording (using a Taskam CD-BT1), it sounds right the way I tabbed it.

I just needed to double-check with someone on my thoughts before I go tell the guitar player to go check his chords on the song he actually wrote...
