What to play?

Hey, I've only just started with the bass but it is really sticking and I am enjoying it very much. It has been a couple months now and I am really getting interested in the history and players, especially in older blues/rock and funk sounds. Any suggestions on what I can work on playing, doesn't have to be anything to easy because quite frankly its more fun to have to work at it.

Also, I am interested in picking up a few CDs with some good bass on it, a solo cd would be great but isn't necessary. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the help!

James Brown greatest hits.

Stevie Wonder - The Definitive Collection

Marvin Gay Greatest Hits

those are all good blues tunes to learn from ...

When you want to start getting into even more stuff ..

Led Zeppelin and John Paul Jones always were great with bass.

Along with Geddy Lee and Rush.

those are just a few to name.

Find anything with Johnny B Gayden on bass. He turns up in the darndest places! He played with Johnny Winter, Albert Collins, etc.

I stole a lot of my chops from him!

Among my favourite blues cd's to play along to would be Buddy Guy, Cream, John Mayall's Bluesbreakers ( especially
with Eric Clapton), and Peter Green. The Crusaders early albums are also excellent IMO.
