Definitely technique. I'm too cheap to get any new amps or effects or anything, so I try to emulate sounds through my fingers alone. Obviously there's only so much you can do with that, but it works for me.

If i had to choose one it would be technique by far. I've played through a bunch of different basses/amps/cabs/effects... but it all still sounds like 'me'.

But I think multiple things all contribute a little as well and it's hard to concretely say one single thing makes up my sound.

I'm gonna say my bass, but I've heard alot of people say they can tell it's me playing before they saw it was me, even unplugged. But alot of people have said that my ATK sounds very unique in the ways I've set it up over the years and apparently anyone that uses my Laney rig I'm currently using sounds like me too.
