What's The Last Question You Had?

Sign in to disble this ad
I've been going to bass lessons with a pretty solid teacher recently and he always asks me if I have any questions. I have never had a question that wasn't answered by experimenting or listening and I feel like any technical playing questions always have the same answer (practice it). I feel like I should have some questions though, so maybe I'm just not thinking in the right area.

What are some questions you have asked your instructor, or peer, recently?

edit: after posting this I realized this whole forum is questions you have. Maybe I should say 'that you did not ask about on talkbass' to the question.

Got anymore Juicy notes???

Juicy notes are hip resolutions to shoot for when soloing. Like on a V-I to nail the b13 of the V to the 3rd of the I as the chords change.

Do you think I should go to college?

He was a little taken aback and I think he was thinkin' "No", but that was a long time ago ('77).

I went anyways. Had it's + and -. If I had it to do over I probably wouldn't go. But fortunately I learned a lot from a GREAT theory teacher for two years. Tryin' to learn DB was an experience all it's own...

The last lesson I had was with the wonderful David Murray, who is one of Gary Karr's greatest students. I only asked him one question which was "can you help with my bow arm?" What he gave me was the most definitive explanation of arco playing I've ever seen, and it changed my playing forever.

Take lessons from as many great players as you can. One of them is going to give you that eureka that takes you to a completely new level!
