Where do i begin?

I really want to learn to play bass guitar and have for a long time, but i don't even know where to begin. Does the brand matter? What kind of bass is best for a beginner? Should i start out with 4 or 5 string? Are these answers dependent on what kind of music i wanna play? I am so freakin' clueless at this point. Someone please point me in the right direction; any advice would be welcomed. Thank y'all!

first of all, you got the wrong forum, but its no biggie

what i suggest you do, is go to the Basses forum, then do a search for beginner basses.
