Just for a little personal information to help set the setting of where I am at currently in my bass adventures. I am 17 years old, and I've been playing bass since I was 13. I've played with bands ever since I started, and I'd like to say I am pretty decent. I have been able to recognize some shifts and adapt playing with timing / chord progression and note structure without really knowing the song or whats going on before. Before I really started playing bass I had about 5 years of piano under my belt. I started to get into some light theory while doing the piano, and have picked up a couple of theory tips along the way from just playing, and musicians that I've encountered along the way. I may try to get lessons with someone from the local conservatory. But in the meantime, where does one start with theory? Is there a book out there that I could get that would be a good guide as to progressing through music theory and everything along those lines?
I'm basically at the point where I've amazed a lot of people that have heard me (not trying to sound cocky, just what has happened). BUT, I have not amazed myself. I hope that makes sense. I still see that I am limited by my lack of being well-versed in the theory aspect of music. I may try to get into a Music Theory program along with music performance at a university when college comes around the corner next year, BUT I would love some advice. I'm a very dedicated person when I find something that I like, so I know I could do well studying theory on my own, although I'm not denying the benefits of having a 3rd party such as a teacher instructing me along the way. Money is just a little tight now in the family, and I just bought a Markbass rig

so, I don't really have a lot of money coming around right now.
Best regards, and thank you very much for doing so much as reading what I have posted.
