I'm looking to learn more about music theory, since I'm very into jazz and improvisation. Is www.musictheory.net a good website to learn?

Yes, one of the best. Don't let the piano visuals throw you. The piano keyboard is IMHO one of the best ways to "see" theory. Enjoy.

I tried registering with this site on three occasions, but was not successful. I contacted them twice to say there seemed to be a problem. Never heard back, so I gave up.

I just bought the following book:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/097...ef=oss_product

It's very easy to understand and builds very gently as to not overwhelm you. It seems to be targeted at middle school aged kids, but the information is relevant no matter your age.

The examples the author gives are easy to understand. So far, I'm digging it.
