1.) it's the 2nd degree in ii - E in Dm7b6 (or the 3rd in i/Cminor ) that gives that "major" flavor, and also
2.) the aurality of the passage - Ab G C G is really "major-ing".
P.S. harmonic major scale - the sixth degree lowered.
Ex.: C D E F G Ab B C.
I was just saying when I play the Eb b6 maj pent over the G7b9 I also hear the harmonic major. Eb, F, G, Ab, Bb, B, D, = b13, b7, root, b9, #9, 3, 5. Thats all.
