i dont think listening to a record ...working out how to play it and then throwing down the tabs and posting it on a site is breaking any law....any more than humming a well known chart tune to somone else is breaking the law...
...or maybe it is? |

Alternately, for the price of a new Roscoe, you can purchase a license agreement to use G#...

it really will help you as a musician to just sit down and listen to the song, rather than reading fake musical notation that probably isnt right anyway. |

That's why they sue rather than have a sending-people-to-jail trial. If it were criminal, then they'd just turn you in for that then use that case's outcome as the basis for their civil suit.
As I understand it anyway.

Tabs are fun sometimes when you're just bored and want to play along with a song you don't know... It's fast and easy to follow as long as you have the instrument know-how and some basic music skills...
How they can say these tabs are illegal and such is beyond me. |

Pretty soon you'll have to join the Musician Guild before you can even think about music. After all, somebody thought of it first, and they deserve your money for it. |

I don't see how that's a legal issue with copyrights. It's ridicules. Tabs can be a good aid to people trying to play a certain song.
Some day the entire internet's going to be illegal. |

I can see the publishers' point that online free tabs could kill the sales of official tabs and sheet music, but the music publishers have not really attacked the market with available "official" tabs. My guess is that they have lost around $0 from sales of sheet music due to tabs posted on line. It would be one thing if they would actually compete by providing official products at reasonable prices, but for the time being, they just want to play the Grinch. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
