Beware of Music123

Just got totally screwed on an eBay sale from Music123.

I've been wanting a later model Fender American Deluxe Precision with the wine finish. I've been looking for weeks and finally broke down and made the purchase from Music123 through eBay (eBay item #200696490268).

Music123 collected the money from my PayPal account, sent me a confirmation e-mail, then less than 12 hours later sent me an e-mail saying the sale was cancelled. That was it. No explanation, just cancelled. I called them to find out what was going on and was told they didn't actually have the item they'd sold me. Huh? "Oh, there must have been a mistake, we've already sold that one."

They then told me they had a different one they could sell me, but they didn't have any pictures of it and didn't have any details on its condition. Bate and switch?

The sale went through yesterday, was cancelled at 12:11 AM today, and the money is still not back in my PayPal account. Music123 said, "if the money isn't back in your account on Tuesday, give us a call back." What?

I called eBay to ask if they're okay with a seller selling an item they don't actually have. The eBay rep on the phone explained that they (eBay) get paid for the listing no matter what, so as far as they're concerned its my issue to work out with the seller. What a lousy buying experience.

I had a bad 123 experience last month. They made 4 mistakes on my order. They ultimately bent over backwards to try to make things right. My impression was that some of their business practices aren't the best but they really care about customer satisfaction.

It takes some time for PayPal to put the money back into your account sometimes.

Maybe you should try Musicians Friend instead? Oh wait, same company

I think the issue has more to do with the lag time of info between eBay and Music123. Perhaps it was eBay that didn't update their info in a timely manner? If you were buying direct from Music123 I wonder if they would have shown the item as out of stock?

IME, it takes a good minute for the money to be credited back to your account. I ordered an item from them and it was backordered and it seemed they would never get it in stock so I cancelled the order. Took a good week or more before I saw the money back in my account.

They aren't the only ebay seller to pull that crap. I had the same thing happen last month - item no longer available, but they have 8 of exactly the same thing listed in other current auctions.

Ebay lets the sellers get away with it, but what are you really going to do? Might take a class action suit against ebay to get this situation dealt with.
