Is it cool to ask for feedback?
I just completed my first two selling transactions here on Talkbass. Do I just wait and hope my buyers will give me feedback, or should I, after a week or so, ask them to leave me feedback if they don't do it on their own?
One of the buyers has 47 feedbacks- I figure he will do it on his own, but the other has 0 feedback, and may need a nudge.
But, both items only were delivered yesterday...;)
I think it's the proper thing to do. I've never had any trouble getting feedback, the one instance where the buyer kept "forgetting", I let some time pass and then sent him a PM asking what was wrong with the item? If he was unhappy about his purchase in any way please let me make it right! I can only assume since you haven't returned the courtesy of leaving me feedback that you are displeased in some way, so allow me to address it!
That got his attention, I knew he was thrilled with the bass, but for some reason couldn't take the two minutes to leave me feedback. I got it that night, glowing review, and everyone is happy.
Give folks at least a 48 to 72 hour window to check the gear out, some times you want to make sure everything is correct before leaving feedback. If you haven't heard in a week, I would start nudging a little. I said a "little".
It's not straightforward to leave feedback, IMHO. Usually I wait for the buyer to give feedback or an "I got it" email, and at that point I consider the transaction complete. Then I give feedback as a seller ASAP. If I know the buyer I'll give feedback sooner.
About 10-15% never give feedback.
If I were your buyer, I would not be offended if you reminded me to leave feedback.
As a seller, I always wait to hear from the buyer that all went well (item received, condition as stated, etc) ... once I receive confirmation of that, I leave feedback for buyer, then notify them that I have done so, and ask "if they would feel inclined to do the same, that would be appreciated" ... then its up to them ...
As a buyer, once I have received the item and it is 'as described', I will then leave the feedback, and then respond to them again, with the above request ... oftentimes, they already have left it, and I then thank them for that and respond with feedback for them ..
FWIW, I have had instances where feedback was left for me, but it was not registered on my feedback count. I have come to realize that some people, do not know how to leave feedback appropriately ... if you do not link the thread, it will not register to your total ... in those couple cases I have sent a message to them letting them know their feedback did not work, and I will usually include to the link that they need to supply on the feedback form in THAT note, so all they need to do is copy and paste it ...
