The most common scam with PayPal is when someone hacks an account and then asks to have the item shipped to some other address. The seller loses the money and the item that was shipped. That's why sellers ship only to the PayPal registered address. Even then the seller will likely lose out in any dispute, but to have any chance of any kind of seller protection the seller must ship to the PayPal verified address.

Getting popcorn (it was a short money transaction but it's still money). | You were wrong, and you brought up the money in the first post.
How do you expect responses to differ when you asked if you were wrong?

I was beginning to think this sub forum was completely devoid of humanity. | I see you've only sold one item here, maybe you don't realize it, but when the seller gets the email from PayPal there is an address in the email. It says "Jim Bob sent you $666 USD" and then at the bottom of the email is the "Shipping Address" section. That's what I use when I go to the post office or UPS. If someone requests another address and then I get a different verified address, they get a refund.
I have shipped to other addresses in the past, but it's been to people that I've talked to first on the phone or people that I've done other transactions with in the past.

I know I would be very sorry if I did it. I bet an apology is still on it's way. Of of course I'm an Optimistic silver lining kind of Man.

I couldn't agree with you less on your views of your transaction. Update your PP addy...it takes 2 minutes to login, change it, drink 1/2 beer, and log out. Maybe the seller should have confirmed the address with you or maybe he shouldn't, but in the end you only have yourself to blame.

Why the hostile ex landlord?

The whole point of my post was not financial or legal at all.
I was disappointed that the seller didnt read or respond to my PM. | This is why you should have updated your Paypal address. It even shows you the shipping address before you send money. Had you done that, it would have been irrelevant that he didn't read your PM. Quote: |
My points are lost on this crowd. You people truly only care about money! There are other, finer points to being human. Things that 18th century philosophers used to expound upon.
| You are ridiculous. You don't know anything about us. I care about a lot more than money. And you get more and more ridiculous in this thread. First--someone shipping to the verified paypal address and a bunch of people saying he didn't do anything wrong is an example that "humans have failed as a species." Now, you want to bring in 18th century philosophers? Because you didn't update your address. Seriously? that doesn't strike you as the least bit overwrought and silly? Quote: |
All I wanted was the guy to be nice about the whole thing- but like this crowd, all he crowed about was liability and money- which of course I never asked for and am not entitled to.
| You wanted him to be 'nice?' What does that mean? Yeah, an apology that he didn't pick up your slack would be nice. But, get over it.
Instead of expounding about human failings and 18th century philosophers, how about you move on and update your Paypal address? Quote: |
There is more to life than liability and money. I will pray for you folk to have epiphanies regarding such.
| Don't bother. My world view and expectations are pretty realistic unlike some people I might mention. You should really focus more inwardly about why you equate someone else not apologizing for your error when you ASKED equals a failure on a species wide level., and why you think people telling you that you are wrong on the internet is a topic worthy of the age of enlightenment. Seriously.
Here's an epiphany for you--Had you taken the 2 minutes to update your Paypal address from the place with the evil landlord when you moved, you'd have whatever trinket you paid for and not be looking for validation that you are right on the internet while finding failings in your fellow man and making philosophers roll in their graves with ridiculous comparisons.

Sorry you don't like what you hear... but you were in the wrong here.
I guess you must be one of those who always find blame on someone else and not take responsibility.
You asked! Now you get mad people don't agree with you?

Most people a good, hard working, and fair.
You're just looking for support because you don't want to take responsibility for your own mistake. It's ok to feel sorry for yourself, but don't try to blame the human race for being mean to you. Just grow up and learn from your mistake.
I'm curious, how old are you, 10?

Hostile ex landlord, I scoped the premises and either
1) ex landlord confiscated the box or threw it away or
2) item is locked in a hallway I no longer have access to.
Seller should have shipped to the address I provided by PM.
Am I wrong, or is he wrong?
Getting popcorn (it was a short money transaction but it's still money). | the short answer to your question is that you are wrong.
it would have been nice of him if he had shipped to your requested address (assuming he received and read that request). unfortunately for you, he did not and you are still wrong.
are you quite sure he received and read the PM? perhaps this is a communication issue.
it would be nice of him to offer remorse for the situation. you are still wrong.

Have you updated your paypal address yet?

Why would you make a PP payment with an incorrect shipping address?
In this case, the customer is not always right.
Sending a PM with another shipping address is the least secure way to conclude a transaction.
I so suggest for future TB sellers to possibly include in their sale description, "Paypal verified shipping addresses only" if that is the only address acceptable to be shipped to. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
