It does sound awesome though in my EB MM Stingray! Love it!

Next time use small box caps like this:

I am going to order parts off the list in th first few pages if nobody came up with any really stout upgrades. This has been a great source of info when I actually get a chance to read it. My 2 MM's and my 2 P's are going to sound great with this. |

Will feed back results once they are delivered.

To start off I'm not an EE so I build like paint & number. I look at the picture and numbers and have a go at it. All the parts are what is recommended, no substitutes.
1 The treble pot works but boosts counter clock wise, is that right? The boost it really extreme could peel the enamel off my teeth. Is it too much boost?
2 I'm not using EB pick ups. It's American Deluxe Precision with the big block (dual coil). In series mode it would over drive the pre. I soldered it for parallel ( 1.89 ohms) and it works with out distortion. I would like to use this pre in a pedal with pick ups that are at least 4 ohms and up. After reading through the posts I'm some what confused as to whether I can do this. I did read about switching some resisters but , don't quite understand which ones.
I hope I make since.

I found this preamp sounds warmer with ceramics, tantalums, and polyester film caps. The only drastic change in tone I hear is when I use another opamp other than the LM4250. you can also fine tune the gain by substituting trim pots for the 220K input and feedback loop resistors |

| | | | I can only source either a 470p or a 560p cap to go inplace of the 500p listed on the PCB board - can anyone tell me if this will still work? Or...someone want to send me a 500p?! Lol
And...anyone find out a good sub for the LM4250 opamp? I have a TL072 from a partial 3 band MM pre build, could i use that?
Cheers, MKD |

Cheers, MKD | 470p is fine.
Why don't you want to use the LM4250?

Cheers, MKD | Where do you buy parts? Are you just looking locally? Mouser and Digi-Key both have the LM4250.

| | | | yes just locally - mouser + digikey dont have NZ distributers so that means shipping is horrendous for a +/- $2 component ($40 from one site...)
what do i need to check spec-wise for comparison between suitable opamps?
ive downloaded a couple of spec-sheets but its all greek to me unless i know what to look for.
