For me, every musical concept I'm 'aware of' I know want to know equally 4 ways.
Actually, there are 2 other ways 'for me' but they are 'personal' for each individual. But the 4 things I have listed can be taught and learned.
Most bass players are only physically players. They may even became great at physically interfacing with bass. But they may not have an intellectual understanding of what it is that they do. Or they may not know how something is gonna' sound before they play it because they are just playing memorized fingerlings.
The Bassologist(my word) is the bassist who is interested in more than just physical manipulation of the instrument.
It's like the difference between knowing all that you can about a person or just being involved in a physical relationship with them. Not passing judgement, just pointing out the difference.
