It's a good idea to know the fleet of the airline you fly. I fly Southwest Airlines most of the time. Their whole fleet is 737s. And SWA is a musician friendly airline. They seem to love it when you walk on a plane with bass.
I also know that my bass with fit on an Airbus 319 or 320, another popular bird.
But regional jets like a CRJ 200, the bass has to go underneath.
Oh yea,...I NEVER ask if I can bring my bass on. I act like I know what I'm doing because,...I KNOW WHAT I'M DOING! When you ask you put someone in a position to to tell you 'no'. And if you ask a person who is not sure they'll probably say 'no' to cover their ass.
Repeat after me,...

I think if I were flying all the time, I'd pay the extra fee to get in their first boarding group. |

peace,
anthony | Thank you for this timely information and your assertive attitudinal outlook. I've always been terrified of getting bummed w/ my gigbag at the gate. |

And it's a lot of bass too. So much bigger than my other 2 imperials. And the ebony fretboard with the low action I keep dirties up the sound just the way I like it. I wasn't expecting that gritty tone. Pleasant surprise.
Of course, you are welcome to play it.
