Injuries

Hi,

I am doing work for college and have been asked to find out about injuries that can happen when playing bass. I wanted to know if you have ever had an injury whilst playing bass? And did you change your technique to prevent it from happening again?
Thanks

A good friend of mine, Dr. Randy Kertz, wrote a great book on bass related injuries and treatments and preventions.

I recommend that you go to his website and buy his book.

peace,
anthony

May I play?

I use both fingers and pick and have always loved both. When I turned 40, my hand would start aching really bad about 10 seconds into using a pick, so I had to reluctantly give it up. A couple years later, I read on Carol Kaye's website how to play with a pick and remain pain-free, and I worked on it, and sure enough, the pain is gone and I can play with a pick all night.

Wow, JimmyM, I had the exact same story, only I was closer to 37 at the time. Modifying my picking technique and position to be more ergonomic also cured this, although I didn't use Carol Kaye's method. But I'm going to look it up now.
