My son and I thoroughly enjoyed your bass clinic in LaPlata. Thanks for the inspiration (and the
Aguilar pedal and DR strings). We have both read "The Music Lesson" along with other books about Theory and Harmony on your suggested reading list.
I am a fingerstyle player who has played in cover bands for the past 40 years (playing mostly rock). I have immersed myself in 70's funk and am finding the love of learning and playing again. I am more serious about playing now more than ever. I hope to attend more clinics or even Vic's Bass Camp.
I really appreciate you and your son driving down from Delaware to attend my clinic at Island Music. I hope you got something out of it!
And I hope to see you again!
And if you love the early Funk lie I do you'll enjoy these songs:
Glide by Pleasure
Fencewalk by Mandrill
Thighs High by Tom Browne
The Awakening by The Reddings
Pow by Graham Central Station
Slide by Slave
Hair by Graham Central Station
The Same Thing by Sky and the Family Stone
Thanks, Ant.....I'll give them a listen!
Also, your rule for performing (meeting 2 out of 3 criteria) was eye-opening for both my son and myself. Correct me if I'm wrong:
1. Right people to perform with
2. Right venue for the performance
3. Right type of music to perform
Upon discussing this concept (on the way home from LaPlata), my son and I made some necessary changes on what, how and who we were playing with. We are both happier and more psyched about playing.
Good music, good people and good pay! At least 2 of the 3. Any 2 of the 3.
