But MOST of the fast players I've heard are just wigglers.

I have a lot of chops and I can play and thump faster than most. But I can do diatonically over the whole fretboard if I need to. And I can sing everything I play before I play it. That's how I ensure that I'm playing the music from the 'inside'.

By the way, a wiggler is how I 'affectionately' refer to guys who are just moving their fingers fast.

This worth a MILLION DOLLARS! Reminds me of when as a college student I played lead guitar and hung out with my fellow metal heads and shredders and we heard BB King was coming to the campus to do a concert. Well we decided to sit in the first row and criticize his playing labeling him as an old, slow playing, pentatonic blues scale playing has been. Quite literally we went to meet him back stage after the concert and bowed before his greatness and repented for our attitudes. The man played deliberates notes, with deliberate tones and spoke volumes with Lucille. That totally changed the way I think as a musician.

At the age of 40 now I decided I needed to "mature" as a musician. I only had taken studies to lesson 4 when I was 16 and then in my want to learn songs, I bailed on traditional teaching and just wanted to learn how to play songs. My quickness too mimic cost me my ability to read music and learn proper technique. What I did get out of it was the ability to learn by ear and find my own style.

I am in a original music band where we have two bassist. I play the acoustic gigs and another more seasoned player does the electric gigs. At first I felt my playing wasn't as good as his (I feel he is a technically better player) but I feel my playing suits the music perfect for my interpretation of the acoustic sets. The bass lines for the same songs are done totally different from my playing to the other guys. I have my own style where many players only mimic what they hear and try to copy. So from thinking I wasn't good enough as the other guy now I realize that we just play a different way and that's cool with me.

I may not be the best or fastest or most technical but I know when I hear my music it's me coming out and not some rehashed music style of someone else.

Anthony asked for a video on youtube, which is educational...

...here is one, which tought me how to play funk(or at least explains it, in the simpliest manner ) Though it`s so simple what he`s playing, it`s pure funk.

Hahaha oh man... When i discovered this video years ago I had though i had discovered a million dollars;

This is one of the coolest/most instructional lesson of all time in my books.

I know a lot of you guys will say "Oh yeah thats common sense, play on the 1"

But when I had first started playing bass a few years ago i was blown away by this... Especially since white ppl have no natural groove
