2 hours to practice...

hi everybody, I have set aside 2 hours a day to practice... In this time I need to include;
scales, pieces, exercises, site reading etc.

Could anybody give me a bit of an outline of how long/when to do each of these things. Also what should i be including in my practice?

thanks heaps

15 mins of scales w/ 5 min break. Then do your site reading for a few. Then do your exercises. Then finish off with a long time on your pieces.

If I were you, I would do around an hour and a half of scales and etudes on and then spend the rest of the time you have on pieces (don't forget orchestral exerpts). I try to work on pieces as little as possible because I believe that fifteen minutes of constructive practice on pieces is better then an hour of unconstructive practice.

I believe that if you practice your scales for that long, sight reading will become a lot easier, however, if you insist on practicing it, I would just spend maybe five minutes and just read through the piece with the right pitches and intonation. If you make a mistake, just keep on moving in time, don't go back and fix it. Also, slow the pieces down to a speed you can play about 90% of the notes correctly.
