| | | | Albert Laszlo Has anyone here studied with Albert Laszlo, or just know anything about him? I will be studying with him next fall, and I was just interested in what he was like, or if there are certain things I should expect from him (or that he will expect from me).

Some people misinterpret his quietness and think he is cold, but nothing could be further from the truth. |

I've heard that he intends to segue into teaching exclusively at juilliard, but I don't know for sure. I do know that juilliard is paying his travel expenses. |

Bassman - I'll be going to CCM to study with Laszlo next year and recently got a lesson with him when he was in New York for the Pre-College Auditions. He is a great teacher, very well mannered and like Justin said, plain and simple, he is a beast. If you're going to CCM, see you next year.

P.S. He asked me to purchase the 2 Sturm books and the Storch-Hrabe books and look through them this summer. Maybe that will be some help to you. |

| will they be hiring an extra part time person at CCM?
Patti Wood, Laszlo's wife, used to have quite a bit of work in Cincinnati. It would not surprise me if Al kept his home there. |

When you think about it he has it very good at Cincinnati, better than he has it at Juilliard, and has very few students at Juilliard. Nobody knows what is going to happen but Mr. Laszlo, but I know that Mr. Laszlo is not going to be in NYC more than 3 days out of the week. |

In fact several string teachers are teaching at both CCM and Juilliard. A couple violinists and a viola teacher come to mind immediately. When you think about it, teaching bass at Juilliard is like a second job (for the bass faculty anyway). Levinson, Cobb, and O'Brien all have their respective orchestra jobs. About ten years ago, Paul Ellison used to split his time between USC and Rice. He's now just at Rice, I think he just wanted to cut back. Last I heard, Don Palma was at MSM, NEC, Yale, and ???
Anyway, don't worry about Al. His appointment to Juilliard is just a testiment to his hard work and skills as a teacher. |

But to add to the list John Hood teaches at Temple and Peabody. Jack Budrow lives in Raleigh, NC and teaches at Michigan State University. Most of the NYC and Boston teachers teach at multiple schools. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
