any jazz jams in north ga, east tn?

i am in western nc, n. ga or east tn area. i have never played jazz but i am getting a little bored playing bluegrass and need a little spark. i like older jazz tunes and big band too. i am stuck in a rut right now.

I have a freind that just moved, for work reasons, to Indiana from Knoxville. He said that he kept pretty busy around Knoxville, and that there were quite a few players in the area. The university would be a good place to start scouting around for jam sessions and info on the local jazz scene.

On a side note-How is the Kay treating you? I just picked up a 41' Kay last weekend. I've got your old bass in the middle of a complete restoration - doubling the top, patching cracks on the ribs, top, and back, removed the old integral bass bar, sound post patch, replacing old chewed up lining etc. It's a pretty huge project for me, but good practice! Sorry for the momentary derail. Take care.

thanks aren. i will start snooping around. i am really enjoying the '53. i usually keep it at home and i bought a '64 kay to drag around to the local jams and 4-fun gigs. but it has served me well and it sounds and plays great. it is exactly what i wanted.

i hope the flatback turns out like you want it. i do miss the tone and the great low end but i know where another one is sitting in the back of a piano shop and probably hasn't been played in 30-40 years. i made an offer but they may be a little stubborn. not a single crack on this bass and looks like the original finish. wish me luck.
