Arcology

I've been spending time on the transcribed Mr PC, bowed solos from one of Jim Stinnet's wonderful books, Arcology II. I think there is a lot to be learned here but it seems to be slow going. Has anyone else used this book?

The bowings are not written in, but the articulations are.
When I approached it I used some bowings suggested in the Goldsby book. However, after listening to the recording (What Is This Thing Called Love? Red Garland) one finds that his approach to bowings is spontaneous, whimsical. You're left with a feeling of just what a giant he was on the instrument. I feel like I shouldn't even bother.

I'd be interested to know if anyone has benefitted from this book.

Just recently picked up Arcology, haven't had much time to work with it yet.

In regard to bowings, you were right in going to the recording. Listening is the best way to get how he is articulating. Don't give up on it!! It's a little like understanding accents in language, you can understand someone speaking English whether they're from England or Georgia once you get used to their accent.

The Goldsby is his own take on P.C.'s bowing style (fairly accurate, I believe). In the end, you will naturally add your own accent/articuation to your playing which is a good thing.
