It's a rhythm changes. Sometimes people play the form AAABA during the melody.

Here's some changes a la Nat Cole. The first chorus has a repeat. (In the chorus, it has that descending bass line under
sort of bluesy Basie-ish licks on piano.)

Straighten Up and Fly Right

verse
Ab | Ab7/C | Db9 | Bb7 Eb9 |

Ab | Ab7/C | Db9 | Bb7 Eb9 |

chorus

Ab(69) Ab/Gb | Ab/F Ab7/Eb | Db Ab/C | Bb-7 Db/Eb |

Ab(69) Ab/Gb | Ab/F Ab7/Eb | Db Ab/C | Bb-7 Db/Eb |

Chorus (continued)

Ab(69) Ab/Gb | Ab/F Ab7/Eb | Db Ab/C | Bb-7 Db/Eb |

Ab(69) Ab/Gb | Ab/F Ab7/Eb | Db Ab/C | Bb-7 Db/Eb Ab7|

bridge
C7 |C7 |F7 |F7 |

Bb7 |Bb7 |Eb7 |Eb7 |

chorus

Ab(69) Ab/Gb | Ab/F Ab7/Eb | Db Ab/C | Bb-7 Db/Eb |

Ab(69) Ab/Gb | Ab/F Ab7/Eb | Db Ab/C | Bb-7 Db/Eb Ab7|

But be aware that there's an Andrews Sisters version that's a bit different than Nat's - especially in the bass line. Check iTunes for some variants....

straighten up & fly right

this is one of the many tunes belonging to the "rhythm changes" genre (based on "i got rhythm").

i've got a 41-page arrangement for basically all parts if you are interested...
